Kim il Sung
Kim il Sung was a Korean communist politician who led North Korea, he was born April 15, 1912 and died on July 8, 1994. Kim il Sung stayed in power from 1948 until his death in 1994. He was Prime Minister (1948-1972) and President from 1972 to his death. Kim il Sung achieved many accomplishments, he was also the chairman and General Secretary of the Workers Party of Korea. He ruled the nation with autocraic power and and he had established a cult of personality, during his tenure of leader of North Korea. Kim il Sung was named one of the top 100 Asians of the century by Time magazine in 1999. Kim il Sung was worshiped by his people with extreme measures, people did not even have photos of their family in their homes, the only photos they ever had were those of their "Great Leader" but was he really so great? The kind of place they lived in was one of no freedom, there were no cell phones, no internet, no freedom of speech, or freedom of religion, it was all controlled by Kim il Sung. Kim il Sung had barbed wire electrical fences built so that people could not escape. One man tried to escape with his best friend and they left during the night to cross the fence, but while the man made it, his friend did not and was electricuted by the fence. Why do people worship this man so much even though they are treated so wrong? Do people really worship him out of respect for what he has done or is it out of fear?
